Hell Teacher Nūbē (地獄先生ぬ〜べ〜, Jigoku Sensei Nūbē) is a Japanese horror manga series written by Sho Makura and illustrated by Takeshi Okano as their running hit franchise. It was serialized in Shueisha's magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from September 1993 to May 1999. The manga ran for 276 chapters and was compiled into 31 tankōbon volumes. As of December 2014, the Jigoku Sensei Nūbē manga had 24 million copies in circulation.

It eventually produced the following media:

  • A 49-episode anime series by Toei Animation which aired from April 1996 to August 1997 on TV Asahi, and produced three movies and 3-episode OVA series.
  • A spin-off manga series titled Reibaishi Izuna: The Spiritual Medium featuring the itako girl, Izuna Hazuki which serialized from July 2007 to October 2011. It eventually gained a sequel titled Reibaishi Izuna: Ascension in November 2011.
  • A sequel to the series titled Hell Teacher Nube NEO taking place 10 years after while centering on Kyōko Inaba, now a teacher at Dōmori Elementary.
    • This was followed by a sequel titled Hell Teacher Nube S which started in Saikyō Jump in August 2018.
  • Around the same year as the debut of NEO, a Japanese TV drama series was announced in June 2014 with the setting altered to high school. The 10-episode series premiered on Nippon TV on October 11, 2014 and concluded on December 13, 2014.

Plot[]

The series follows Meisuke Nueno, aka Nūbē, the homeroom teacher for Class 5–3 at Dōmori Elementary. More than a teacher, Nube is also a skilled exorcist, protecting his class and the town of Dōmori from supernatural threats with strength borrowed from a powerful demon sealed in his left hand—a technique he calls the Demon's Hand.
